Check https://blog.grem.de/pages/t470s.html, especially:
"Configure input devices for X.org", where
/usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-myinput.conf is created.

Make sure you don't have any x11 configuration besides this (no
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, no /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf).

You might also issue:
setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout en
and see if it makes a difference.
