Troubles with Radeon HD4250

Hello.

I've got a desktop with this card in the MB: I've posted about the
problems I'm having in the past; finally I had solved by using
drm-legacy-kmod + xf86-video-ati-legacy.

However, since the upgrade to XOrg 1.20 the latter is not viable anymore
(it's marked broken and won't compile; there are patches around which
allow for compilation again, but it will crash anyway).

So I'll start over.

Mainboard is an Asus M5A88-V Evo (latest BIOS installed), which features
a Radeon HD 4250 with three outputs (VGA, DVI and HDMI):
_ VGA works (but I'd like to avoid it due to static noise in the
background);
_ HDMI works until drm drivers are loaded (then screen goes black);
_ DVI works until drm drivers are loaded, then the screen starts coming
up and disappering (monitor entering power save mode) every 1-2 seconds.

All the data requested in the wiki follows.

Thanks in advance to anyone who will help.

  bye
	av.

Last note: using DVI, if I lower the resolution from 1920x1200 (my
monitor native resolution) the flickering stops. 1920x1080 or 1600x1200
are enough (but of course I'll see black bands around the image).
When I do, I see the following in Xorg.log:
> [ 519.258] (WW) RADEON(0): get vblank counter failed: Invalid argument
> [   519.319] (EE) RADEON(0): drmmode_do_crtc_dpms cannot get last vblank counter
> [   519.320] (II) RADEON(0): Allocate new frame buffer 1920x1080
> [   519.330] (II) RADEON(0): VRAM usage limit set to 100447K
> [ 595.248] (WW) RADEON(0): get vblank counter failed: Invalid argument
> [   595.269] (EE) RADEON(0): drmmode_do_crtc_dpms cannot get last vblank counter
> [   595.270] (II) RADEON(0): Allocate new frame buffer 1600x1200
> [   595.279] (II) RADEON(0): VRAM usage limit set to 100987K

In one case, however, the X server hanged a few minutes there after.
