Unable to get X working after update. Any big change in authentication?

Hi;
It may be something like a month now since I ran "pkg upgrade" and I have now been unable to log in to KDE. The login screen changed to some attempt to add a picture and it succesfully detects the keyboard language but now it justs logs out.
I am using the nvidia-driver-470 but that shouldn't be a problem. I tried to changed to CDE but still I was unable to get it working. Something about an authentication file not found and then the server exits "normally", without any hint in the log. Any clues on what is going on?
