I'd say that if there is a problem in base, that's where it needs to be fixed.
I fear that fixing in one or some ports only makes the fix on base less urgent.

What needs to be done at this point?
Should a new PR be filed against base system (linking this one)?
"Product" should be changed for this PR because what apparently was a port(s)
issue turned out to be a base issue?
...?
