Yes, despite my config identifiers are outdated, the section (as quoted in
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=267915#c39) clearly specifies
driver modesetting.

But I guess I just compared the glxinfo -B 'Accelerated' output, not the
xdriinfo(1) after switching VT to console and back.
I doubt the 'option DRI "3"' setting influences the 'libGL error: failed to
load driver' problem at all.
It's just that I restarted x11, which made xdriinfo(1) 'working' back then. 
After VT switching I probably only checked glxinfo -B which still reported 
'Accelerated: yes'.  But most likely the zink fallback (error loading 'iris')
was happening back then too... sorry for confusing effects.
