            Bug ID: 287453
Summary: x11/nvidia-driver: Vulkan and OpenGL are broken on RTX
                    5000 series
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: amd64
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)

OS: FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE
Drivers: 570.153.02, 575.57.08
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 5090

Recently changed GPU to a RTX 5090 and I've been running into serious problems
with the nvidia-driver port. I did have to enable the GSP firmware in
/boot/loader.conf to get startx to succeed and not hang indefinitely. The real
issue is that any hardware-accelerated applications like web browsers (firefox)
or terminals (kitty) are unusably laggy. I have had to resort to using the scfb
driver for now, in order to have a functional system.

Easiest way to trigger the problem is by running vkcube when the driver is
loaded in an X11 session. For an instant the program will run fine, then it
will appear to pause and become incredibly slow.

dmesg output:

NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 16, Head 00000003 Count 00001078
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 16, Head 00000003 Count 00001079
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 16, Head 00000003 Count 0000107a
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 16, Head 00000003 Count 0000107b

I've found similar reports from others who are using different RTX 5000 series
cards around the web:

https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/rtx-5070-ti-hangs-with-any-transparent-windows-and-or-vulkan-apps-on-freebsd/334937

I can confirm that even the New Feature Branch driver 575.57.08 still suffers
from the same issue, so this is likely to affect the *-devel drivers which are
in the works.
