I'm in the process of updating my personal PCs (desktop and laptop) to 16 and
these machines have amd graphics, so I have been following this.

Since from what you say the problem is the location of the firmware files, a
simpler workaround could maybe be (untested):

# ln -s /boot/modules /boot/firmware/amdgpu

If I stumble upon this issue, I'm going to test this idea, but maybe I
misunderstood your workaround?
