I can confirm that on today's main and drm-kmod 6.6-lts I can start amdgpu.

I am now using plain firmware files from linux-firmware instead of kmods. I
deleted all gpu-firmware packages instead.

And I have a kernel compiled without debug.

Whichever of the last two it was I cannot say but I'll find out;  I did have
the plain firmware files before but likely had 15-CURRENT kmod packages still
which may have taken priority (but should have failed to load).
