Not the bug I thought it was. THIS is actually a HDMI hot plugging issue.
Wayland become unresponsive when the KMS was switching away and back over HDMI,
which gave me the symptoms of a unresponsive keyboard & mouse.

Switching over the display port fixed the issue.
