I am closing this bug. The NVIDIA 304.xx driver branch is end-of-life and will
never be updated for the current Xorg ABI (24.1). The original reporter (jwb@)
said "This PR can be closed AFAIC" and found workarounds using the nv/vesa/scfb
drivers. While some users still have affected hardware, there is no actionable
fix possible without NVIDIA updating the closed-source driver, which they have
confirmed they will not do.
