The segfault was triggered by the xorg-server upgrade from 1.20.14 to 21.1.4, and the xorg-server has continued to advance since then. A workaround exists (use xf86-video-vesa), and Black_N noted a newer xf86-video-nv-2.1.22 exists upstream but was never ported.
