Das habe ich grade versucht. Danke auch an Datasmurf!
Aber es hilft nichts.

Die make.conf gab es noch nicht. Ich kannte das auch noch nicht.
Ich habe die man-Page gelesen und in die bsd.default-versions.mk Datei
geguckt und einiges ausprobiert, aber es scheint keinen Unterschied zu
machen.

# cat /etc/make.conf
DEFAULT_VERSIONS+=php=7.1

# make install
===>  php71-mbstring-7.1.10 cannot be installed: doesn't work with lang/php70
port (doesn't support PHP 5.5 5.6 7.0).
*** Error code 1

Stop.
make: stopped in /usr/ports/converters/php71-mbstring
