Sorry if so long a time has passed...
This only half solved.

Now when I plug the hard disk in, it doesn't get detected.
I need to issue "usbconfig reset" and it will come up.

If someone has any hint, I'd be happy to let the user manage the disk by 
himself by just plugging/unplugging it.
