problems with SOL and latest 15.1

hi,
I’m upgrading some of my hosts to 15.1 (from 15.0) and having problems with the console redirection
on some old (but reliable) dell r720.
I’m using EFI, and so far the best I managed is to get some output (mainly kernel) on the screen, 
no shell output, but did get the Login:.

with IPMI only the first few lines of the boot.

so, what is the latest magic to get efi console here to work?
