While you are there and if going to use Thunberbird in earnest,
make sure to learn how to gather NNTP and SMTP logs, which are
especially useful if Thunderbird withholds its error messages
from the user.  For example, posing an article via Gmane with
Sylpheed looks thus:

   * creating NNTP connection to news.gmane.io:119 ...
   [16:22:37] NNTP< 200 news.gmane.io InterNetNews NNRP server INN 2.6.3 ready (posting ok)
   [16:29:36] NNTP> GROUP gmane.test
