neither 4dos nor ndos nor masm are GPLed, and that "filename splitting
and current drive and directory stuff" thing is really small.

However, I agree that FreeDOS should provide some help with string
manipulation, especially with something that can read/write environment
variables or some other kind of .bat variables. Suggestions welcome.

A bit off-topic: If the differences are not really important, I agree
that FreeDOS should just imitate the MS DOS behaviour with FindFirst
error codes.

Sorry about the delayed STAMP analysis. Let me check...
stamp /t1234 test.stm
- works with FreeDOS 1.1.27rc on a floppy disk image with Dosemu
- works on a redirected / network drive and a hard disk image as well
touch also does work.
I guess there was an unrelated problem or a problem caused by me using
an old kernel when I first did the test. I hope I had mentioned that in
the mail that I have written at that time...
