Re: Beta vs. Stable

I view the 1.0 release as the 1st stable release with a reasonable
amount of the FreeDOS spec implemented.  To this end I do think
command line switches should be fully compatible (for those programs
that reproduce MS DOS functionality [as per the Spec]) and the
functionality available should be 'stable'; reasonably free of
major bugs.

Before a 1.0 release is available I would like to see another
list like Aitor did before; specifically I would like to see a list
of all Base programs with comments (from the maintainer's perspective
and from users) indicating how much it meets the FreeDOS spec
100%, not quite 100% but the maintainer feels is acceptable for the
1.0 release along with what is missing, not ready with a note as
to whether a 1.0 release should wait for it or it should be considered
not essential for a 1.0 release.

To this end I am attaching a text file that I would appreciate if
those who maintain or use a program would fill out and _send back
to me_ ([email protected]); and I will merge/summarize for the
list.  Here is an example entry for tree:

Please note though, I believe Jim is the one who will make the
final decision as to when a 1.0 release should be made.
The 1.0 release will be preceded by one or more complete
1.0-pre distributions (everything as it will be in a 1.0) for
testing, which if tests ok will become the 1.0 distribution.
However, the 1.0 release will not be before some time next
year at the earliest; as Beta 9 is already planned for release
later this month, due within a week or two after kernel 2027
is released.
