Erm... I think some of you have missed the point. When you write a new GNU GPL program, do you write all your own libraries etc? No! You resuse existing libraries and code, because that is one the major features of GNU licenses! So it is with GNU FDL. We can re-use text from the old docs if the author releases it under GNU FDL, but we are starting from a totally clear legal standpoint. Maybe we should ask Microsoft Corporation to release their DOS as free open source, then we don't have to bother with FreeDOS at all? It has already been made clear that I'm going to have to check nearly every line of the existing docs against M$, etc. Then I've got to work out all the licensing issues, like sort out copyright notices for each file. And how many people have contributed to the index file? Without every contributor's permission, how can I determine the license on the HTML? All this before I've corrected a single mistake or browser compatibility issue in the documentation. Let me make this clear: its *easier* to start afresh. If you *know* you have already written an original work for HTML help, then please submit it! That's what I want! And please don't be offended if my comments seem harsh - I'm trying to help. As I said: > It will have subprojects and small, clearly-defined tasks that > people can contribute towards. And it will be made clear to all > contributors that they must use the GNU license. ---------- list options/archives/etc.: http://www.topica.com/lists/fd-dev unsubscribe: send blank email to: [email protected] ==^================================================================ This email was sent to: [email protected] EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?bz8Rv5.bafB3U Or send an email to: [email protected] T O P I C A -- Register now to manage your mail! http://www.topica.com/partner/tag02/register ==^================================================================
