Thank you for your thoughtful response, Paul.  I'll try the /v switch.  But
isn't my external mouse a PS2 mouse?  It plugs into a port with the PS2
physical structure?

ctmouse will find the com port mouse correctly if you use the /v
switch.  Otherwise it will always find the PS2 (trackpoint) mouse
first and it is not supported under DOS.  This worked for me.
