Bad news, Paul.  The /v switch did get the DOS shell read either the
TrackPoint (a new achievement for the DOS shell) or an external mouse, so
you were right about that.  But my DOS program didn't behave any
differently:  a mouse pointer icon appeared mid-screen (it doesn't appear at
all without ctmouse running), but it remained frustratingly frozen.

ctmouse will find the com port mouse correctly if you use the /v
switch.  Otherwise it will always find the PS2 (trackpoint) mouse
first and it is not supported under DOS.  This worked for me.
