Thinkpad Configuration utility (ps2.exe)

I've just tried out Freedos Beta8 on my thinkpad 760, in an attempt to
replace the MS-DOS install with something better.  I only use this partition
for two things anyway:

1) To put the soundcard into soundblaster-emulation mode before starting
linux from loadlin, as the soundcard is one of those horrible MWave
winmodem-and-DSP-in-one things that can only be activated with IBM's
proprietary drivers.  FreeDos is able to run the correct program and start
loadlin, and this works fine.

2) To run the Thinkpad Configuration Utility, an executable named ps2.exe.
This is IBM's excuse for a BIOS, and I could conceivably still need it after
purging MS-DOS.  However, it will only run on DOS (there's a Windows GUI
version, and also an OS/2 version, I believe).  Unfortunately, when I start
FreeDos and try to run this program, I get the following message:

  A program started an invalid instruction without registering an invalid
  opcode exception handler.

Any ideas?
