Right, the swapping trick puts resident code somewhere in memory according
to the lilo docs but I'm not sure where. FreeDOS might well overwrite it,
I just haven't investigated.

Fine! Yes I haven't thought of that. But it works because lilo simply
remembers the sector where bootsect.fd is stored. So you'll need to re-run
lilo if you would ever run a defragger or something similar.

It can boot from the 2nd hd, believe me, people have done it. You probably
encountered an obscure bug :)

About config.sys, this is more difficult than you might think. The kernel
cannot assume that BIOS drive 0x81 corresponds to drive D: for instance.
Patches are welcome though ;-)
