Let's say you have a tarfs with write support.  You do

settrans -ac myarchive.tar /hurd/tarfs 

and it uses the underlying file.  Then you do

mv files myarchive.tar/

and

settrans -g myarchive.tar

Now you need to increase the size of the (file) store.
