My sequence of commands:

 $ settrans -c ftp: /hurd/hostmux /hurd/ftpfs /
 $ ls ftp://myuser:[email protected]/
ls: cannot access 'ftp://myuser:[email protected]/': Translator died
 $

An important aclaration, when i connect the ftp server through conventiona=
l
ftp, i input:

 $ ftp servername.net
 >

The part 'ftp://' is not needed. Can this be important?. I tried this:

 $ ls myuser:[email protected]
 $ ls: cannot access 'myuser:[email protected]': No such file or dir=
ectory
 $

I feel a bit frustated, i confess.
