| That sounds like a bug in your UEFI firmware.
If that were the case, then efiboot would probably not be
found either, so I doubt that is the issue (though some
kind of firmware bug is always possible).
My system has never (since day 1) found a boot.cfg file
from efiboot - that doesn't hang the boot, it just falls
back to the compiked in config instead, which works.
It is possible we have some subtle issue with firmware i/o
which much firmware just handles, but other does not.

ps: I have installed (different) boot.cfg files all over
the place on my system (different in that they all have a
unique banner which announces which one has been found,
none ever has).
