Thank you for the guidance and suggestions.

I’ve contacted the original author of the patch to better understand
its history and current status.

I’d still like to move forward with this work, even though it hasn’t
yet been integrated into the tree
— and hopefully I can help change that.

If anyone on this list would be willing to review the patch or provide
guidance, I’d really appreciate the help.
