This is a bit late, but from re-reading old npf mail: pf's pfsync(4)
mechanism enables two carp(4)ed machines to communicate packet filter
states. I am not aware of an npf equivalent, but then I haven't kept
track lately.
Also: Darren Reed's ipfilter had this idea of an rpc proxy which would
make it much easier to filter portmapped services (nfs here). To the
best of my knowledge, it never advanced to a working implementation.
