Since I was running this in my home lab I absolutely had a "proper"
IPv6 router advertising a conflicting IPv6 default route. Therefore
this could just be a problem with my lab setup. 

We should see what happens with Peter's actual VPS. I did notice while
reading the ndp manual page that Neighbour Unreachability Detection is
a thing and while that shouldn't be a problem, who knows with a VPS
provider.
