Far too many times, I've spent ages working on a patch and
it simply got deleted by the developer who next updated the
package. 

This pattern has mostly discoraged me from working on pkgsrc
outside of stuff I personally use and nobody else touches,
which I think is where a lot of other people are at.

I'm in favour of any tooling that makes this less likely, but
ultimately the culture needs to change.
