I use these sysctl settings for gigabit TCP performance:

kern.sbmax=16777216
net.inet.tcp.recvbuf_max=16777216
net.inet.tcp.sendbuf_max=16777216
net.inet.tcp.recvspace=262144
net.inet.tcp.sendspace=262144
