- octave doesn't seem to support libtool natively and it's why there
  were so many patches in math/octave

- this might have been quite uneasy to maintain and was not set
  correctly so that octave has failed to work for more than a year

- So removing the libtool stuff from so many patches led to working
  octave at last, ugh (see PR 42683 for more)

Thank you for this, I hope it helps. However I still believe pkgsrc
should fix it somehow itself.
