Firstly, I am unable to build cups. Posted separate mail on that. The issues with cups dependency are: 1. One may not want printing support at all. Why build cups unnecessarily then? 2. One may not want cups as one might prefer lpd. 3. This is not an issue, though a usage pattern: I prefer printing pdfs only. If I create an office doc, I'd export it is pdf, preview and then print the pdf. Somehow, with pdf, feel more confident of it being rendered exactly as shown on screen.
