You are not required to provide one. But as the package maintainer if 
you believe it will make it easier for you or others, then feel free to 
add one. Maybe install it under ${PREFIX}/share/doc/mpdscribble/ or
${PREFIX}/share/examples/mpdscribble/.

Make sure the directory exists:

INSTALLATION_DIRS=	share/examples/mpdscribble

And install it with a post-install target. Many examples are in pkgsrc, 
such as pkgsrc/mail/milter-greylist/Makefile

Then make sure your PLIST covers the new files and directories too.
