How can I reset the console character intensity after exiting X-windows

Hi,

I recently switched from the in-tree X-windows server to the modular xorg 
server from pkgsrc.  The server itself it working well, however, on exit the 
display is left in an almost unusable state.  It appears that the character 
instensity is set at a very low level.  Normal white text is just barely 
readable.  Text in DDB is completely invisible.

Is there NetBSD command that can be used to restore the character intensity?  
Note that this is not a backlight issue.  The graphics adaptor is ATI Radeon 
Mobility 9600.
