It turns out that if you set the field "Resources Controlled By" to "Manual" in the "PnP/PCI Configurations" menu and then set IRQ 5 to "Reserved" in the sub-menu "IRQ Resources" the sound output is okay even if I use an ACPI enabled kernel. auvia0 is now on IRQ 7 (used to be IRQ 9); if ACPI is disabled auvia0 is on IRQ 5.
