FWIW I get the same problem on a AlphaServer 1200. If I just use sysinst naively (the only way I can), it seg faults at the stage described. I mention it just because this suggests it is not some hardware fault on the OP's machine, for example. I'm going to try with 8.1 to see if that works. -------------
