Why would you look at /dev for that? I would look in /var/run/dmesg.boot. That also provides more detailed information; for example, having wd0* in /dev/ doesn't tell you whether it's behind a wdc at pcmcia or an ahcisata at pci or a wdc at isa or what; dmesg does, and also lists things, like network interfaces, that don't have /dev nodes at all.
