Is it possible to try with the installation media on a usb drive? I had a similar journey to you with my Rock 5B, in the end using dd to write EDK2 to the soldered in spi, only to have the netbsd kernel fail to find the uSD card which it booted from. I have had success with an arm64.img.gz image from NetBSD-daily/netbsd-11 written to a usb drive. I can try to install to nvme.
