This sounds like you booted a 1.5/1.5.1/1.5.2/1.5.3 arm32 GENERIC kernel on a
Shark - this doesn't work. You need a shark kernel instead.

if you really want to erase the first sectors on the disk, you need /dev/rwd0c,
not a.
