That was the conclusion I came to after looking at the various diffs
from what I have up through 1.27: the 1.26->1.27 delta should be no
less correct applied to what I'm working with than it was for 1.26.

I built and burnt a kernel with that change.  The result works a whole
lot better; that appears to have been it.
