I'm pretty sure it's not the fault of hpcboot, unless you're using an 
old version of hpcboot.  I've had no problems loading kernels > 5MB 
(like the install kernels) on my ipaq with the latest hpcboot.  Also, 
you can try the build at ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc/rafal/
