Packages managment and compact flash

Hi,

I have to questions about preparing to run netbsd onto jornada 720.

1- I need to buy a CF type I. Do all of them (vendors..) work well as a 
bottable device?
    Sandisk Ultra II : 
http://www.sandisk.com/pdf/retail/ultra2-bro-eur-eng.pdf   seems to have 
the best CF type I         performances

2- I do not have a netbsd system running.
    I know i can cross-compile with debian but how could i manage packages?
    I mean : compiling sources for hours on the lill'machine could kill 
it. So how do we manage package?
