automatic screen dim?

I noticed once when I was running on battery power that my NetBSD  
machine automatically shut the screen off when power was getting low;  
tapping space bar woke it up again.  Is there any way to invoke this  
behavior when on AC power?  If so, how can I set the time before  
turning off the screen?
