I've got some 12V-nominal sealed lead-acid batteries (ex-UPS batteries, some of which appear still good), and it strikes me as possibly an interesting hack to use one of those (or mutiple in parallel, though, based on watt-hours, one of the lead-acid batteries should give me about a day of run time already...).
