keyboard mapping in X

I'm having a strange keyboard issue in X. I log into a server (also 
netbsd) using ssh, and run centericq. In console mode, no problem. In 
an xterm, the down-arrow key doesn't work. The down arrow key does 
work in other apps (e.g., pine). Is this a mapping problem?

Is there something I need to do to make X use the same mapping as 
wscons?
