Just to add on this, not necessarily helpful: There’s a modern replacement for the unobtainium Asante box, at least in Germany it never shows up, and if it does then for incredible prices. The RaSCSI project added Ethernet-over-SCSI-capabilities a while ago, and it’s open source, so the "hardware" implementation of it is known. That may help in writing drivers for it. https://github.com/akuker/RASCSI Boards are available e.g. from Tindie and (in Germany) from Samplerspa.de. Besides these "hats" a Raspberry Pi is needed.
