ntpd working for anyone on SMP macs?

Stupid question: is ntpd working for anyone using a SMP macppc machine?

For me it syncs for a short while, but then loses sync again.
Typical ntpq -p output:

     remote           refid      st t when poll reach   delay   offset  jitter

Something wrong with the cpu cycle counters?
