Yes, userland looks the same. There's strange things like 
ntpdate always segfaults during bootup, but when I run it 
myself from the command line, it doesn't. I've even found 
core files from sleep and xargs...

I tried to have a look at those with gdb, but I don't currently 
have debug binaries on the system, und gdb reports an internal 
error anyway ("frame_unwind_find_by_frame failed").
