Booting without NFS or tape

I'm interested in installing NetBSD on my MVME147.  Is there any way to 
boot it without tape or using NFS?  I know debian used to have a tool 
to convert disk images into S-Records which you could transfer over 
RS-232.  Is this possible with NetBSD?
