Is this a 32-bit ofppc kernel? The PowerIII is a 64-bit CPU. Otherwise it
wouldn't be possible to access more than 4G of memory.

In case you booted a 64-bit kernel we have a bug in ofppc64. What happens
when you remove some memory, so you have less than 4G?
